TV this year for Anny

POSTED ON Monday, January 13, 2025 in Writing

My Bestie Amny asked me to make a list of the tv shows and movies I watched this year soooo…..

Here it is!

Yuru camp

I love LOVE anime that has an educational aspect. In this one you learn about camping! This is the most cozy non-romance anime I have watched. It’s actually peak comfort. I’m not personally a fan of the character designs, but alot of people are. I really like all the outfits they wear!

Look Back

58 minute movie about two girls who need eachother artistically (and carnally?). There is a point in this movie before which you do NOT know where it’s going. I did not feel emotionally prepared for the twists in this movie. ABLIS watch if you want to cry. Alot.

Linda Linda Linda

There is something UNBEATABLE about Japanese girl indie/punk bands. GO!GO!7188, chelmico, kessoku band, Haku., CHAI…

LINDA LINDA LINDA is about an amateur highschool band who loses a member a week before a school festival concert. They decide to put on a show anyway, recruiting Korean exchange student Son (who speaks little Japanese) as vocalist. The Korean actor Bae Doona is fucking ENTHRALLING in this. This movie some of the best casting i’ve ever seen. Really amazing feelgood movie.

One Piece

I’ve started watching a bit of One Piece. I think the absolute best thing about this show is it’s juggling of comedy and action. Very much like the slapstick cartoons I grew up with. God I miss Cartoon Network. Character design is PEAK.

Dandadan

Part of the newest generation of BIG budget shounen along with Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer. Silly spectacle is how I would describe this show. Not very serious, but it takes the character relationships HARD ON. Very unecessary wild animation, but it somehow works?

Frieren

The first episode of this anime is THE BEST first episode of an anime i’ve EVER watched. Fantastic concept for a fantasy story. The quality of the long burn of this anime can be discussed, but not the first episode. I would actually encourage you to just watch the first episode if you’re not looking to watch a whole season. Also Frieren (the main character) has AMAZING character design.

Dungeon Meshi

WOW this series has good worldbuilding. It’s sorta like the polar opposite of star wars? It’s a WILD comparison, but hear me out. While Star Wars asks the question: “What if fantasy looked like sci-fi?”, Dungeon Meshi asks the opposite: “What if sci-fi looked like fantasy?”. All the fantastical elements here are used in a very grounded, logical way. It really makes me believe in the ecosystem of the world and the taste of the food.

Tone and comedy are probably this series greatest weakpoints? Alot of the scenes feel very very flat, and the comedy often feels cheap and at the expense of Marcille for no reason at all. The character design is great, as are some of the characters themselves.

These are all the shows and movies I watched this year (without my Bestie) and would recommend to her :)
