Nakano Broadway Log

POSTED ON Thursday, December 5, 2024 in Photography

Trash Taste gave a few tips on nerdy shopping districts and where to find them. Nakano Broadway seemed the most interesting. And BoY was it interesting. Like a fucking labyrinth. I though it was ONE street. IT WAS NOT. They had a dedicated steampunk shop! And a New Wave shop!! So many weird places.

I found a cute hat shop right outside and looked at some of the caps there. The like, leather hat thingies? I don’t know what it’s called. So I started talking to the old lady there, but she didn’t know ANY english. Luckily I know some Japanese. Turns out she didn’t take card, and I was out of cash, so I told her I would be back. (IDK how I managed to communicate that idea to her). Then my quest to find an ATM began.

It was NOT easy. I went to the information desk and asked: “Sumimasen, ano A-Tee-M-unoo…?” (I am very proud). He tried to speak to me in Japanese, but I didn’t understand SHIT. BUT. He showed me a map and like traced the path i needed to take. I thought I understoon, but i went to the wrong floor :(. When walking around I saw multiple shops selling the same hat I was looking for, but I was DEDICATED to this old lady. When i finally got the cash and got back to the shop, the old lady was about to leave. When she saw me fianlly return, she started laughing and talking in Japanese. She must have found it really funny that it took me 30-40 minutes to find an ATM lol. She THREW the guy working behind the counter out and insisted on serving me. Like actually, she dragged him away from his post. Really lovely interaction, she seemed really excited when I finally bought the hat. She also showed my how to adjust the brim <3. I asked to take her picture, but she waved her hands and something like “iee iee”. 10/10 experience. I also went to a random ramen shop on a street outside. I had to use an oredring machine, which was really hard. Had to ask the guy behind me in line to help me , and he was really eager to, even though he didn’t know much english. He also brought me water and ice <3. I ordered
[[curry ramen]] for 1000 yen and got SO much food. It was the only thing I ate that day, but i never got hungry. I am writing this the next day and i’m STILL not hungry. The old couple working there let me take photos.

Burned my tounge bleh :p.
